Biography

Jörg Halubek is a conductor specialising in opera and concert repertoire, with a strong focus on historically informed performance. His work is characterised by stylistic precision, theatrical clarity, and long-term artistic collaboration with singers, orchestras, and stage directors.

A central focus of his artistic profile lies in Baroque and early Classical opera, ranging from Monteverdi and Handel to Johann Christian Bach and Mozart. He is particularly recognised for rediscoveries, first modern performances, and the revival of neglected works, often developed within long-term artistic projects spanning several seasons.

He has conducted at major opera houses and festivals including Komische Oper Berlin, Theater Basel, Nationaltheater Mannheim, Schwetzinger SWR Festspiele, Innsbrucker Festwochen der Alten Musik, Stuttgart Barock, and the Händel-Festspiele Halle. His operatic work includes staged productions as well as concert performances, frequently realised in close dialogue between historical performance practice and contemporary theatrical thinking.

Halubek is the founder and artistic director of il Gusto Barocco, with which he regularly presents opera productions, concert programmes, and recordings. Projects with the ensemble include the first modern performance of Johann Christian Bach’s Amor vincitore, Monteverdi opera and concert cycles, and rediscovered works by composers such as Antonia Bembo. Selected projects have been documented in recordings released by cpo and Berlin Classics, as well as in broadcasts by ARD, SWR, and WDR.

Alongside his conducting work, Jörg Halubek is active as an organist and harpsichordist. He is Professor for Organ and Historical Keyboard Instruments in Stuttgart and regularly works as a guest lecturer and artistic advisor for historically informed performance projects.
