Die Zauberflöte
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart · Theater Basel · 2025
This production of Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte at Theater Basel is a revival of the internationally acclaimed staging by Sir Simon McBurney. Originally created for the English National Opera, the production has since been presented at major international houses, including the Metropolitan Opera in New York.
McBurney’s concept combines imaginative stagecraft with a clear theatrical narrative, bringing a playful yet thoughtful perspective to Mozart’s work while maintaining musical clarity.

Vespro della Beata Vergine (1610)
Claudio Monteverdi · Nationaltheater Mannheim · Monteverdi Cycle · 2019
A scenic interpretation of Monteverdi’s Vespro della Beata Vergine at the Nationaltheater Mannheim, presented within the theatre’s Monteverdi Cycle. Staged by Calixto Bieito and performed by il Gusto Barocco, the production brought the monumental Vespers into a theatrical context as part of a long-term exploration of Monteverdi’s sacred and dramatic works.
Alongside the stage production, the project was accompanied by a studio recording with il Gusto Barocco, released on cpo, allowing the musical concept to be documented independently of the theatrical setting. The Monteverdi Cycle will conclude with a new production of L’Orfeo in 2026.
L’Ercole amante
Antonia Bembo · Concert performance · Tage der Alten Musik Herne · 2024
A concert performance of Ercole amante by Antonia Bembo, one of the most remarkable yet still rarely performed female composers of the late 17th century. Rediscovered by dramaturg Guillem Borràs, the project was presented within the framework of the Tage der Alten Musik Herne and realised with il Gusto Barocco, focusing on the dramatic and expressive qualities of Bembo’s music beyond staged convention.
The performance was broadcast as live recordings by SWR and WDR. A studio recording released on cpo followed, documenting the project and contributing to the renewed visibility of Bembo’s operatic work.
Berenice
George Frideric Handel · Händel-Festspiele Halle · Opening production · 2018
A staged production of Handel’s Berenice presented as the opening production of the Händel-Festspiele Halle. With this production, the festival completed its long-term presentation of Handel’s operatic oeuvre, marking Berenice as the last remaining Handel opera to be staged in Halle.
